Public enterprise Vilnius Rehabilitation Centre of the Deaf was established in 2000. Theretofore it has been considered as territorial subdivision of Lithuanian Association of the Deaf for Vilnius County. The institution as subdivision of Lithuanian Association of the Deaf has already existed for 50 years.
Public enterprise Vilnius Rehabilitation Centre of the Deaf (further referred to as “Public enterprise”) is independent, voluntary, non profit organization, acting in the field of rehabilitation of the deaf and publicly providing services of this field for inhabitants of Vilnius County.
The main fields of activity of the public enterprise:
- Social services;
- Unofficial occupation (circles);
- Art activity;
- Entertainment activity;
- Recreation organizing.
- Publishing of books.
The main purpose of this enterprise is integration and rehabilitation of deaf people.
The main tasks of the enterprise:
- To execute public programs of medical, social and professional rehabilitation as well as social integration;
- To establish conditions for society and the deaf to communicate in sign language and thus allowing them to obtain information and education;
- To provide services of sign language interpretation;
- To inform the deaf about benefits being provided to people with hearing disabilities and to help them to obtain necessary legal information;
- To assist children, suffering from hearing disabilities, as well as their parents and care takers in implementing the right of these children to seek for education, knowledge and profession;
- To prepare programs for occupation of the deaf people together with the labour centre, to organize teaching of trades and professions and to help the deaf to find a job;
- With a help of public and social institutions of municipalities to organize custody and support for elderly, disabled and lonely members of Lithuanian Association of the Deaf.
- To provide the persons, suffering from hearing problems, with compensatory technique.
Services
Compensatory technique
The public enterprise provides the deaf with:
- Mobile phones;
- Hearing aids;
- Vibrating alarm clocks.
The lists of the members’ of Lithuanian fellowship of the deaf people who received the support are available in the Public enterprise Vilnius rehabilitation centre of the deaf, in Private limited company “Vikada” as well as in dormitories of the deaf in Panevėžio and Dariaus ir Girėno streets. Information technologies
Since 2002 computer class has been established in the public enterprise, where according to their needs the deaf may use PC or other technique: printer, scanner, and copier. These opportunities are especially useful for deaf students.
The computer class is opened according to the schedule:
Monday and Wednesday: 8.00a.m. – 12.00p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday: 13.30p.m. – 18.00p.m.

Medical rehabilitation
Since 2004 wellness centre has been established in the enterprise, where simulators, sauna and massage service are available.

Psychological rehabilitation
The position of social worker was established in 2004. Currently two social workers represent the deaf in various institutions; perform the roles of intermediators, consult concerning various social questions. Social workers cooperate with labour centre and employers on employment of the deaf. They also visit the clients at their homes by solving different problems; participate in the activity of the public enterprise by preparing projects and initiating promotions.
Circles
Art circle
Supervisor: Irena Seniūnienė
Everybody who want to realize their artistic capabilities attend art circle. They are taught to paint on a silk, to mould out of ceramics as well as other technique of artistic expression according to individual wishes.
Dance circle
Supervisor: Mantas Svirskys
Currently about 20 deaf and hard of hearing young people are involved in this circle. Organized dance group “Tyla”. The main activity of the group: modern dance, imitation songs.
Theatre study
Supervisor - artistic director: Janina Mažeikienė
National theater “Mimika” gathers together the deaf who likes acting. Special attention is paid to the art of movement.
Senior club – “Bičiuliai”
Supervisor of the club: Leonida Mikiškienė
Senior club “Bičiuliai” invites elderly deaf and hard hearing people to the joint events, which take place in the hall of the public enterprise Vilnius rehabilitation centre of the deaf each first Thursday of the month.
“Women club”
Supervisor of the club: Ramunė Buikauskienė
Deaf and hard hearing women gather together each Thursday 17.00 pm. in order to share their sweets, problems, adventures and capabilities.
